Talk about genius

I discovered a BBC tv show today titled "Design for Life." It's the same setup as Project Runway or Design Star, only it's headed by world-renown, insanely proflific (and often criticized) designer Phillipe Starck. I definitely recommend heading over to his webpage and checking out all of his designs.

Below is the first episode of "Design for Life." Episodes are about an hour long, but just hearing Starck's philosophies, witnessing the egos, and watching those poor design students run around like chickens with their heads cut off entertains me to no end. I think it's brilliant, and it had me researching design schools in the UK. Maybe a future in product design has begun to read its head, who knows?

Next is a music video from Swedish indie pop band, The Sound of Arrows. This video is bizarre as all heck, but it's beautiful to look at.

Well, those should entertain you for at least 3 hours.

Have a good one!

These pretty boys all call you poison

Today's entry will feature "girly" things. Not because I'm feeling particularly girly today - it just kind of came together that way.

First up is this INSANE loft apartment in Brooklyn, via destiretoinspire. I don't know if I would live there, but I am totally into the chalkboard walls (super trendy right now, for some reason), the day-glo mirrors, and of course, the chandeliers!

I am wild 'n' crazy about that giant painting paired with the rustic beams, and don't get me started on the living room. Those glowing ottomans and that awesome bed/couch? And the lamp? Get outta here. Oh, by the way, there are apparently 12 chandeliers in the space. Niiiice.

Next is this cupcake. I want to devour it.

Finally, the art of Daniel Elegneus. The images are a pain to get from his site, so GO THERE. Ohhh my gaaaaah, his portfolio is mind-blowing. If there were an alternate reality where I could exist in the spaces he creates, I would so be there. The image below is from his series, "Italian Rooms." But make sure you take a gander at all the series!!! via love.obsess.inspire

Whoa-oa-oa

Listening to some 80's jams. "(I Just) Died In Your Arms" by Cutting Crew? Yes, please.

So, it's Monday, and let me tell you, I'm usually semi-okay with that. Today is just too dreary and cold to motivate me to want to do ANYTHING. Seriously, today is bummin' me out big-time.

So it's a good thing I've had some ideas saved up for posts because the interwubs just aren't inspiring me today like they should.

First up is Digital Wallpaper by Strukt, a design agency out of Vienna. They put together a cool little video displaying their most recent installation, which kind of boggles my mind.

Hirzberger Events - Digital Wallpaper from Gregor Hofbauer on Vimeo.

Next I'm going to feature artist Lindsey Warren. Her work seems to focus on presenting urban landscapes/scenes from strange perspectives. I love the colors and the cleanness of her paintings. I could definitely see myself with a mural of this style in one of my future homes. Too cool. You absolutely must check out her portfolio. (via designworklife.)

Last, via Dezeen, it's a crazy lighting exhibition at the 2009 London Design Festival. Oh, how I wish I were there - holy cow - you have no idea. Anyway, follow the link and check out the awesomeness.

Good love is on the way

Some good stuff today, the first being...

Hooray! It's the Jeweled Ambrosia giveaway via Simple Blueprint!

Head on over to Simple Blueprint and see how to win a $25 gift certificate to Jeweled Ambrosia's Etsy shop! Oh my, such great jewelry to choose from!

Next is this hella cool Andrew Bird poster I found via grain edit. $20! Love the color scheme, love the illustrative style - it's just awesome. Check out the other posters at that one website, too. I predict an awesome poster roundup one of these days soon, time permitted.

Last, this awesome ... I dunno what to call it, really. You'll have to check it out - I found it fascinating. A website experience titled "Pintando un Cancion" (painting a song).\

A common mistake in life's race is to sprint

Hello all [one of you],

Just a random smattering today, since time is limited.

First, via design is mine, is one of ten images of inspiration from days of old.

That one caught my eye particularly, but there's a great collection if you follow the link.

Next is this incredibly intense photo I found on nostalgie de la boue. I could stare at it for hours and invent a thousand stories in my head about what could precede and succeed this moment.

Next is some insanely rockin' interior design via desire to inspire. All I can say is I would have no complaints if my place looked like this.

Check out the rest of the space and more by following the link.

I'm off to class to watch "Bringing Up Baby." Oh yeah, I like me some Cary Grant.

Birds are baller

I like birds. Anything with a bird on it, chances are I'm going to like it. They're just cute and aesthetically pleasing. There are certain things that come to mind when I think of birds - simplicity is one of them, though I know biologically birds are quite complex. Sometimes I just think about how nice it would be to be a bird and sit up in a tree, chirping and flitting about all day. So without further ado, BIRDS.

Via grain edit, here's Josh Brill's awesome bird prints from his Flora Fauna collection. Here area few of my favorites:

They're all around $20 a piece, I think. I could definitely see myself decorating with these!

Next, via design is mine, is the art of Helen Musselwhite. HO-LY COW! What a talented lady. All of her pieces are beautiful.

So gorgeous!

"Every day we are breaking habits and forming new ones"

Despite the online lectures from my Interior Design class mostly being totally bogus, my professor actually said something interesting and useful: that we are constantly making and breaking habits (nearly everything we do has the potential to become a habit - good or bad). The most successful people we know tend to have good habits and follow them (right?), as opposed to those who constantly screw up, who constantly make and follow bad habits, no matter how blatantly clear and moronic they may be. It's not the most profound statement, but it's screams truth in its simplicity.

So here are some goodies, while I have time to post!

First being Bijoudally, a shop full of ridiculously beautiful laser-cut leather jewelry. I've pictured my favorite below. Holy cow! You can also check out their flashy website.

I also came across Magdalinen via Modish the other day. Their work seriously blows my mind.

Like seriously? LOOK at that. So beautiful. I'm having trouble choosing a favorite... I'm thinking maybe this lilac one. They're all pretty affordable if you have a little extra cash, too. I may be adding one of these to my wish list for the next gift-giving holiday.

I think I'm going to leave it at that. I'm sick with a cold and muscles are all sore from throwing a football yesterday. Lame.

Tie THIS around your finger

...that's what she said?

(She said that.)

Anyway, just a reminder to ya'll...

This has inspired me to go to a craft store and make one of these for my room like RIGHT NAOW! Sad how reminding yourself that others have it worse can shed light on your situation. Makes us grateful for what we have, I suppose.

I'd also like to share these awesome caricatures by Victor Gatmaitan.

This being my favorite, naturally.

Aren't they insane? The Michael Cera one is dead-on. Though I don't know what would possess someone to spend time on a caricature for him. Maybe for George-Micheal...

Anyway, that's all for now. Look forward to tomorrow for some awesome Etsy finds and probably some other shiznit as well.

Too many corners in my mind

Today I'd like to feature an artist by the name of Manoli Lopez. She's from Barcelona, her art is amazing, and she has pretty good taste in music, from what I gathered on her blog.

I need to find a way to get a giant print of this for my place. Seriously, brilliant.

The other thing I'd like to showcase today is an amazing video by animator/illustrator Javier Cuello. The title translates to "the house in small cubes" - and you'll see the significance of the title. The video is so cute and charming, yet deeply touching and quite sad. It's also a great metaphor for life and the trials we face as humans. I encourage you to watch the whole thing (it runs about 12 minutes, but I enjoyed every moment.)

Feeling inspired

Yes! I'm feeling very inspired today, although some extreme fatigue is foiling my plot to be creative. Really, I keep coming up with all these great ideas packaged with a moment of motivation, but within seconds it all escapes me. I did come up with a cool concept for a big post on here, though, so please stand by for it.

I'm not sure how the above photo was composed, or exactly what's going on in it, but I DO know I'm absolutely bonkers for it. I wish I were her, so I could experience that moment of elation and unbridled insanity, and maybe even understand how I arrived in such a wonderful place.

In other news,

i wish.

Today skies are painted colors of...

Grey? A cowboy's cliché? The rainbow?

How about a multicolored nebula with an elk exploding from the center?

Today I'd like to spotlight artist Drew Turner, one of many artists featured on "Just Us," an artist collective featuring work from talented college students all around the U.K. Be sure to check out other artists, especially Owen Gatley and Jack Hudson. Browse around, there's some great work.

Secondly, for my one reader in Boston, I came across an entry featuring the Black Ink Shop via freshly{blended}. They seem to have an eclectic combination of products, from giant boxes of Pocky to porcelain keys, to basically any other unexpected novelty item the heart desires. You can check out their online shop (and the rest of their cool website) here. I don't know if it's located conveniently, but it may be worth it to have a little adventure.

Thirdly, I won one a print via Pikaland! There are some great giveaways and it's a pretty sweet blog in general.

I don't know which one I won, but Victoria Usova's work is super cool and I'm stoked to own anything! Can't wait to get it in the mail. Check out her shop here.

Have a good weekend, all!

OH-EM-GEE, another giveaway!

Wow! Looks like my blog is just becoming a way to enter to win free stuff. No, there will be some substance soon, I've just been busy. I've got a good amount of material stacking up to show ya'll.

Anyway, this giveaway is THE BOMB. Check out these awesome 3-way bags from Spirited Style!

They come in 11 different patterns. If you're interested in entering, scoot on over to Simple Blueprint and see how to enter!

All this Twitter business is making me wish I had one. Still holding off!

Another Fantastic Giveaway!

Here's another chance to win something from Love.Obsess.Inspire...

This bracelet from Dirty Story is INSANELY GORGEOUS!

Be sure to follow the link in the banner and enter yourself to win! Holy cow I'm excited! It would make ANY outfit amazing! Be sure to check out the link to the shop above and see the rest of Michelle's work. I especially like this one.

Fantastic giveaway!

I LOVE online giveaways. They're tons 'o' fun because not only do you have a chance to win something, but the products typically lead you to tons of other fantastic things you've never seen before! I never seem to win much ever, but my mom has a strange ability to kick ass at cake walks... so it's in my genes somewhere. (By some miracle, I actually DID win something recently...TBA.)

I do have an ulterior motive for posting this - because it enters me in the giveaway. But you should definitely check it out, too!

It's the...

Click the banner above to enter for a chance to win a cool set of prints from Louche Lab!

I just love the look of these cards... the colors, the sketchiness of the illustration, and the fact that it's all over something previously printed!

Good luck!

Step Back

Very tired today, so I'm glad it's basically a 3-day week. Hooray for Labor Day and no obligations on Fridays!

First up is a Good Wives and Warriors mural in Melbourne, Australia.
Apparently this stunning piece took 14 hours to complete. Sooo cool!

More pics via The Design Files.

I also discovered Personas, a project over at - of course - MIT. It's a way to see how much information there is about someone/thing on the internet, and what all that information has to say about them. Mine wasn't very interesting, but I was surprised to see how much information there was out there about my professors, fellow bloggers, etc. It's also very mesmerizing to watch. Try it out!

That's it for now. Later!

Where is my mind?

... a question I'm certain I'll be asking myself throughout the next week or two, since classes are starting up. I'm pretty sure my brain is dormant after an entire summer of working endlessly and not doing much else. I'm excited to get back into the swing of things so I can once again claim to be intelligent. Anyway, two selections for today:

First being Les Illustrations de Lapin. He has a very unique, sketchy style well-represented by this ad he made for Heineken.

Definitely check out his portfolio, specifically the piece titled Melting Pot. It's a whole lot of awesome.

The second selection is amazing! An enormous paper-craft castle by Wataru Itou. Titled Umi no Ue no Oshiro (A Castle On the Ocean ), this hand-crafted work took over four years to complete.

Wowee!

That's it for now. See you tomorrow!
