We can't survive on your bedroom eyes and a spanish guitar

Hello all!

It's been an interesting day thus far. Yes... indeed. It's Tuesday! Which means Monday is over and we're a day closer to the weekend - namely (in my case) Spring Break! Woooooo!

I've found several interesting things over the past day or so, and I've noticed they've all fallen into a nice retro color scheme. I guess I'll comment on that later.

By now, I'm sure plenty of you have seen this Brangelina shoot from W magazine (2005) via whorange. Holy cow, is it awesome. So you're gonna look at it again! Except with my favorite photos from the set.

The topic was "a crumbling marriage" or something along those lines. Doesn't this just look incredibly awkward? No love. Also reminding me of a scene from A Single Man, except with a completely different mood.

What a gorgeous lady, even though I bet you'd be hard pressed to find a woman looking like her in the 60s. Makeup is right-on.

I wonder if this photo was a happy coincidence? I doubt it. Very interesting.

This is just SCREAMING Anne Bancroft in The Graduate. As if all of these didn't scream Anne / Mrs. Robinson right in your face.

This one is just so real it almost hurts.

Uh-oh. ACTING!

Creeeeepy. Glad he's leaving, though. What a shot.

Well, that was a downer.

How about now we take a look at some beautiful, fresh-retro interior design? Just a little bit. Here's the post from design is mine so you can check it all out.

Really digging this room in general.

I like all the elements that add color and what they're doing for the awful drab-ness going on there. Guh.

I want that painting.

Next, this cat's coming to kick your ass! Artist Lisa Hanawalt sure draws some bizarre stuff (mentioned in an earlier post here). I like it, though!

via my love for you is a stampede of horses.

*sigh* Today is going to be a weird day. I can feel it.

See you guys later.

Puttin' bodies in motion cuz I got the notion

Hi everybody!

How was your weekend? No complaints here, other than the snow-dump we received overnight. I know, I know, "quit complaining about the weather - you live in Michigan!" Well I think as a Michigander it's my natural-born right to complain as much as I want. I'm kind of stuck here.

First up is some art by Ryan Begglen. I came across this thanks to a friend. Some of these had me cracking up.

Those are the three funniest, IMO. Be sure to check out the rest of his portfolio!

Next up, I am really digging this chick Heather Patterson, who I spotted over on design for mankind. It's got wonky watercolors, geometry, sketchy drawing, triangles - everything I like! How about that?

Too cool, right? I liiiiike.

Ok, so this chair is hawt. Maybe the sexiest chair ever (in an obvious way...)

Lastly, this video is pretty cool, particularly the music. via share some candy.

That's it for today. Have a fun-filled evening!

Also, remind me not to ever try to update this using Chrome. It's super buggy.

The worlds collide, but all that we want is a shady lane

Hellooo!

I had a very satisfactory Valentines Day, but who cares? It's friggin' PREZIDENTZ DAY NAO!

Lawl. Ok, that's enough of that.

This lady (Lisa Congdon) is all over the blogosphere, I've seen her at sfgirlbybay, automatism, and design is mine. Anyway, I want to draw attention to these glorious landscape paintings...

I'm also a big fan of her animal art...

Apparently she is also working on a collection of photos, paintings, illustrations, etc. a day for a whole year...

"This is a blog documenting a project that will span exactly one year, from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010. On each of those 365 days, I will photograph or draw (and occasionally paint) one collection. Most of the collections are real and exist in my home or studio; those I will photograph. Some are imagined; those I will draw or (occasionally) paint."
The link above is to the blog. It's been pretty interesting so far. I admire her diligence and dedication! I can't even stick to updating this thing as often as I'd like to.

that tip via automatism.

A friend of mine tweeted this this morning:

Check her outtttt it's Computer Engineer Barbie!

"'All the girls who imagine their futures through Barbie will learn that engineers - like girls - are free to explore infinite possibilities, limited only by their imagination," says Nora Lin, President, Society of Women Engineers. "As a computer engineer, Barbie will show girls that women can turn their ideas into realities that have a direct and positive impact on people's everyday lives in this exciting and rewarding career.'"
ORLY, Nora Lin?

I have mixed feelings about this. While I fully support Barbie's attempt to be a career woman and expand her horizons, inspiring little girls everywhere to boot up their parents' computer and start coding her first website, I don't know a single self-respecting programmer who would wear sparkly stretch pants. And why does her top have to have stupid digi-graphics on it? AND WHY DOES SHE HAVE GLASSES?

I'd like to dedicate one GIGANTIC EYE-ROLL to Mattel. *ROLLS EYES*

On another Barbie-related note, I found this cool Museum of Foreign Groceries on automatism.

Whaaaat? I remember when Barbie looked like that and had that logo. That was ca. the awesome b-day party my mom threw for me when I was like, five. I wish I had photos.

Also, I collected WAAAAY too many of these, once upon a time.

They were pretty tasty, if I remember correctly, and those stickers were TOTALLY worth it...

Yeah. Worth it.

And lastly, I just really like this photo. That's just the kind of mood I've been in lately. =)

via design is mine.

Well that was a pretty darn good post, if I say so myself. That's it for today on In Other Skies!

Byeeeeeee!

Too many legs under the table. Too many reasons for trouble!

Sup y'all?

I had a pretty damn good weekend, if I do say so myself. I relaxed probably too much and definitely enjoyed taking in the Super Bowl in good company.

First up via swissmiss, this graphic just has me cracking up. I can relate, even though I am sadly not totally up on the typography.

I've found myself using Avenir for a lot of things lately, but apparently I need to look into Neutraface and Gotham.

I love love LOVE this most recent Missed Connection illustration. Mostly because this kind of connection could easily exist in my world.

Mostly I love the little creatures within the people kissing and getting entangled. *sigh* Adorable.

Next up, and I excuse me for not remembering where I found this, is some crazy art - "Strange Worlds" by Matthew Albanese. He creates and photographs hyper-realistic landscapes out of everyday materials. Hard to believe these aren't the real thing!

Finally, in this lovely post from Oh? ... this photo captures my views on love almost perfectly.

Have a great evening, everyone!

A trail of ruby red and diamond white hits her like a sunrise

So I am really digging this car. With some paint and electrical tape my '89 Tracer could be looking as hawt as this love-machine right hurr:

via design llama.

Also from the llama, I just came across these ...special... meat paintings by Victoria Reynolds.

I am particularly creeped out by this one, entitled "Uteral Bonnet."

For more disturbing imagery, follow the provided link.

Ok, so you should TOTALLY check this out.

Pentagram Design has this nifty "What Type Are You?" quiz.

I'm Bifur!

via love.obsess.inspire.

Have you heard about the Flat Earth Society?

Well, here's a cool video detailing what they're getting at...

By the way, the next time I completely lose my mind, I am getting this tatt:

kbye. ;D

If you really want to live, why not try and make yourself?

Sup?

LOV-ING THIS.

I really need to learn how to make GIFs like this. I'm surprised I don't know already. via friends of type.

This might be some of the coolest illustrated-animation I've ever seen. I totally dig the whimsical, sketchy feel of this video by Andres Salaff.

Garuda from Andres Salaff on Vimeo.

I am also all about this photographer/artist, Adrian Samson. SUPER impressive. Check out the commissioned pieces. via notcot.

That's all for today, y'all. Have a good one!

Oh wait, eye candy... how about some Ryan Reynolds. Did you know he's Canadian?

Jeeeezzzz... how much do you have to work out to look like that? I approve.

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Oh, darlin'!

So I found some cool crap to show you.

I do a lot of wishing.

via friends of type.

Next up, I've seen this chick on the webz before. It's pretty mind-blowing, but I've never seen anyone cry at any of her performances... I realize there's some historical significance there, and she IS pretty gung-ho about throwing sand around, but whoa.

via love obsess inspire.

What is this madness? I live in a bowl carved in Swiss mountain? Yes. It's bizarre, but the interior is way baller.

via swissmiss.

That's it for today, folks. I think that was a pretty solid post. Now back to the grind of finals. Only a few more days left!

Thursday, December 3, 2009

Hallo, spaceboy

There has been some rad stuff on the internets the past few days (they tend to stack up when you neglect to update your blog for a couple days...)

Anyway, get ready for some real cool shit.

First up, I just gotta post this because it blew my mindz. Erin of Design Crisis did a fantastic post today about rooms inspired by the mod artist Roy Lichtenstein. Click that big-ass link and feast with your eyes.

Next up I am freaking LOVING this type treatment genius via Friends of Type. I think I first saw this yesterday and each time I brought it back up my heart palpitated a bit.

Now ya'll should check out this crazy technological-free-hand-sketch-created furniture, realized through rapid prototyping by Front design studio.

UM, WHAT?

That's it for now, ya'll. I'm ready for some R&R, and by that I mean tons of paper writing. YAY.

Look - some stuff!

Hey all.

First up is this crazy stacking-on-a-Lego video from Boingboing.

Next, this purple dress is kind of blowing my mind. via love obsess inspire.

For real. Get me some grey leggings and I would worrkkk itttt!

Also, you should check out Amy Casey. Can't recall where I saw her featured recently, but check her out!

kbyeguys!
