Today I was thinking about how much I love peanut butter. I was surprised to discover George Washington Carver didn't actually invent it, but he did put peanuts in like a billion other things and improve lives. You da man, GWC!
I'd like to meet the guy who greenlighted that one and give him a stern talking-to.
I also realized how often people use the phrase "goes together like peanut butter and jelly." Now, if I ever hear someone say that, I think I might have to punch them square in the jaw.
Next up, I really dig this room:
I often find myself torn between whether I like dark spaces or bright spaces more, but this has a lot of natural light and a LOT of wood, which we know I am in favor of.
That may be why I also like this one:
The colors are a little monotonous for my taste, but I see what they did thar.
And I've seen this room on nearly every blog I read. Probably because it's GENIUS!
I promise, some place I live in will be modeled after this room.
We just had a TORNADO WARNING! Yes, folks. A funnel cloud was startin' somethin' somewhere around here. I have to say I saw it coming. The sky looked a foul shade of vomit and darkness a bit before we heard the sirens.
One good thing that came out of the experience was that I happened across this Etsy gem.

This isn't really art-related, but this Tumblr, Lesbians who look like Justin Bieber (and also other folks who just happen to look like him too), has been CRACKING me up.

That one is quite the gem. Now let me clarify: I only recently gave enough of a shit to even discover who this kid was, and I have repeatedly made the mistake of listening to several of his songs on Youtube. Each and every time I feel dirty, not because I'm attracted to him, but because I feel like I'm supposed to be and there is a TWELVE-YEAR-OLD CHILD on screen acting like he's some clown down the street at Rick's bar, smarming it up for the ladies. Disturbing much?
Oh, St. Patrick's day... a big occasion here at Michigan State. There's a LOT of green on campus today, and I'm sure the streets will be flowing with green vomit by night's end.
And since we could all use a reminder about what St. Patrick's day is really about (crackheads and ancient leprechaun flutes made from PVC pipe)...

Sometimes I forget everyone has a story to tell. It's just that I keep hearing the same stories over and over. I'm especially tired of my own.
On that note (kind of) I stumbled on this crazy One Day Poem exhibition. This is one of those crazy-cool ideas I wish I'd thought of myself but can't even conceive how this was created. I guess it's like a wacky sundial at a basic level, eh?
Next, I'd really like to check out this gorgeous waterfall in the Porcupine Mountains State Park, right here in Michigan. It's a 10-second exposure photo, but I forget we have that kind of nature around here, namely in the UP. Funny how we have colloquialisms unique to the region, eh? Most people out-of-region would have no idea what "the UP" is referring to, and it's rare for other people to say they're "going up north." "Yoopers" is a good one, too. Wtf, Michigan? I still love you, even in this "Michigan weather" half the nation seems to be experiencing at the moment.
I would loooove to check that sweet-ass waterfall out, but alas, it is waaaay up there (my location is depicted somewhere south of the bottom border... 11-hour drive!):

This one looks like it would be happening somewhere outside a party in Mad Men (except for the Ray-Bans) because they're both so classic-looking. And smoking. Is he holding a switch-blade or a candle-lighter? Doesn't matter.

I feel like this monstrosity was specifically designed to make me hork up this morning's mini-wheats back into my mouth. Look at the right arm... WHO IS WEARING THIS? An old lady, or a dude with some really shitty nice implants (and a wig)? Those veins look thirsty for some heroin, especially in that get-up.

Ok. On a more intellectual note, this video/guy is friggin' brilliant. He developed a type-motion program that displays song lyrics in real-time and animates them based on several pre-set visualizations. IMPRESSIVE, SIR. IMPRESSIVE, INDEED.

Despite the online lectures from my Interior Design class mostly being totally bogus, my professor actually said something interesting and useful: that we are constantly making and breaking habits (nearly everything we do has the potential to become a habit - good or bad). The most successful people we know tend to have good habits and follow them (right?), as opposed to those who constantly screw up, who constantly make and follow bad habits, no matter how blatantly clear and moronic they may be. It's not the most profound statement, but it's screams truth in its simplicity.
So here are some goodies, while I have time to post!

I also came across Magdalinen via Modish the other day. Their work seriously blows my mind.
Like seriously? LOOK at that. So beautiful. I'm having trouble choosing a favorite... I'm thinking maybe this lilac one. They're all pretty affordable if you have a little extra cash, too. I may be adding one of these to my wish list for the next gift-giving holiday.
I think I'm going to leave it at that. I'm sick with a cold and muscles are all sore from throwing a football yesterday. Lame.

Today I'd like to spotlight artist Drew Turner, one of many artists featured on "Just Us," an artist collective featuring work from talented college students all around the U.K. Be sure to check out other artists, especially Owen Gatley and Jack Hudson. Browse around, there's some great work.
Secondly, for my one reader in Boston, I came across an entry featuring the Black Ink Shop via freshly{blended}. They seem to have an eclectic combination of products, from giant boxes of Pocky to porcelain keys, to basically any other unexpected novelty item the heart desires. You can check out their online shop (and the rest of their cool website) here. I don't know if it's located conveniently, but it may be worth it to have a little adventure.
