I want to be someone else or I'll explode

Holy crap! SO busy! Time for a quick post:

I am really digging these illustration from Christopher David Ryan. The subtlety in color in the first two are particularly interesting...

Next, via design is mine, (and also from I've read several things along this same vein in the past few days...

I'd also like to announce an in-the-works, collaborative, once-a-week, semi-guest post series we haven't come up with a name for yet! It's going to be hilarious and it's going to involve me drawing, so you know it's got to be good.

Later!

We can't survive on your bedroom eyes and a spanish guitar

Hello all!

It's been an interesting day thus far. Yes... indeed. It's Tuesday! Which means Monday is over and we're a day closer to the weekend - namely (in my case) Spring Break! Woooooo!

I've found several interesting things over the past day or so, and I've noticed they've all fallen into a nice retro color scheme. I guess I'll comment on that later.

By now, I'm sure plenty of you have seen this Brangelina shoot from W magazine (2005) via whorange. Holy cow, is it awesome. So you're gonna look at it again! Except with my favorite photos from the set.

The topic was "a crumbling marriage" or something along those lines. Doesn't this just look incredibly awkward? No love. Also reminding me of a scene from A Single Man, except with a completely different mood.

What a gorgeous lady, even though I bet you'd be hard pressed to find a woman looking like her in the 60s. Makeup is right-on.

I wonder if this photo was a happy coincidence? I doubt it. Very interesting.

This is just SCREAMING Anne Bancroft in The Graduate. As if all of these didn't scream Anne / Mrs. Robinson right in your face.

This one is just so real it almost hurts.

Uh-oh. ACTING!

Creeeeepy. Glad he's leaving, though. What a shot.

Well, that was a downer.

How about now we take a look at some beautiful, fresh-retro interior design? Just a little bit. Here's the post from design is mine so you can check it all out.

Really digging this room in general.

I like all the elements that add color and what they're doing for the awful drab-ness going on there. Guh.

I want that painting.

Next, this cat's coming to kick your ass! Artist Lisa Hanawalt sure draws some bizarre stuff (mentioned in an earlier post here). I like it, though!

via my love for you is a stampede of horses.

*sigh* Today is going to be a weird day. I can feel it.

See you guys later.

Oh, but if I take my heart's advice

What's up? Apologies for the lack of post yesterday. I was busy being productive - much like today, only today I'm better at it.

First up, this thing is just too cool for school.

It's "We Feel Fine," a project that aggregates how people describe themselves feeling from their blogs into this crazy interactive experience. Here is the methodology if you're interested.

As a brief tribute to Alexander McQueen (a little belated, I know), I'm posting this video because it's blowing my minnndd...

Next up, I LOVE this space via decor8. Apparently it is graphic designer Jan Skácelík's digs. Not surprising.

I love the clean lines, the white, the pops of color, the retro-feel. Soooo good!

I'm also really digging this Trove wallpaper I saw over on Pillow Mint.

I can see that stuff lookin' sooo good in tons of different spaces.

Next, I WANT TO GO TO THERE!!!

I wish I had access to that space. I would spend SO much time there and I SURE as hell would pick up music again. Guitars, drums, nature, oh my!

via design is mine.

I'm thinkin' that's gonna be it for today, guys. I'm starting to lose it, apparently.

Have a good one!

The worlds collide, but all that we want is a shady lane

Hellooo!

I had a very satisfactory Valentines Day, but who cares? It's friggin' PREZIDENTZ DAY NAO!

Lawl. Ok, that's enough of that.

This lady (Lisa Congdon) is all over the blogosphere, I've seen her at sfgirlbybay, automatism, and design is mine. Anyway, I want to draw attention to these glorious landscape paintings...

I'm also a big fan of her animal art...

Apparently she is also working on a collection of photos, paintings, illustrations, etc. a day for a whole year...

"This is a blog documenting a project that will span exactly one year, from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010. On each of those 365 days, I will photograph or draw (and occasionally paint) one collection. Most of the collections are real and exist in my home or studio; those I will photograph. Some are imagined; those I will draw or (occasionally) paint."
The link above is to the blog. It's been pretty interesting so far. I admire her diligence and dedication! I can't even stick to updating this thing as often as I'd like to.

that tip via automatism.

A friend of mine tweeted this this morning:

Check her outtttt it's Computer Engineer Barbie!

"'All the girls who imagine their futures through Barbie will learn that engineers - like girls - are free to explore infinite possibilities, limited only by their imagination," says Nora Lin, President, Society of Women Engineers. "As a computer engineer, Barbie will show girls that women can turn their ideas into realities that have a direct and positive impact on people's everyday lives in this exciting and rewarding career.'"
ORLY, Nora Lin?

I have mixed feelings about this. While I fully support Barbie's attempt to be a career woman and expand her horizons, inspiring little girls everywhere to boot up their parents' computer and start coding her first website, I don't know a single self-respecting programmer who would wear sparkly stretch pants. And why does her top have to have stupid digi-graphics on it? AND WHY DOES SHE HAVE GLASSES?

I'd like to dedicate one GIGANTIC EYE-ROLL to Mattel. *ROLLS EYES*

On another Barbie-related note, I found this cool Museum of Foreign Groceries on automatism.

Whaaaat? I remember when Barbie looked like that and had that logo. That was ca. the awesome b-day party my mom threw for me when I was like, five. I wish I had photos.

Also, I collected WAAAAY too many of these, once upon a time.

They were pretty tasty, if I remember correctly, and those stickers were TOTALLY worth it...

Yeah. Worth it.

And lastly, I just really like this photo. That's just the kind of mood I've been in lately. =)

via design is mine.

Well that was a pretty darn good post, if I say so myself. That's it for today on In Other Skies!

Byeeeeeee!

She's the energizer bunny of seduction

Hello all,

I have some interesting times up ahead. How about you?

First up, this cool chalk-animated music video via design is mine.

Next I'd like to share a new fave of mine - Regretsy. Ohhh lawwwddd is there some ridiculous crap on that website. One being:

Tassel and Studs Chic Shades:

Because you've always wanted vertical Kanye-shades, except to the extreme. Feel like you've been growing your bangs out for three years but didn't realize you could pin them back. WIN.

Next is Yellow Leather Halter:

I feel like this monstrosity was specifically designed to make me hork up this morning's mini-wheats back into my mouth. Look at the right arm... WHO IS WEARING THIS? An old lady, or a dude with some really shitty nice implants (and a wig)? Those veins look thirsty for some heroin, especially in that get-up.

And let us not forget the pièce de résistance,

7inch petite Pantyliner with flannel-Cloth Menstrual Pad-doggy love:

One of the commenters on regretsy said it best: "aren't we always trying to keep the dog OUT of our crotch?"

0_o

Ok. On a more intellectual note, this video/guy is friggin' brilliant. He developed a type-motion program that displays song lyrics in real-time and animates them based on several pre-set visualizations. IMPRESSIVE, SIR. IMPRESSIVE, INDEED.

TypeStar from Scott Garner on Vimeo.

That's all for today, guys. If you're in a snowy place, try to enjoy it before it melts and turns yucky-grey like it has here. <3

A common mistake in life's race is to sprint

Hello all [one of you],

Just a random smattering today, since time is limited.

First, via design is mine, is one of ten images of inspiration from days of old.

That one caught my eye particularly, but there's a great collection if you follow the link.

Next is this incredibly intense photo I found on nostalgie de la boue. I could stare at it for hours and invent a thousand stories in my head about what could precede and succeed this moment.

Next is some insanely rockin' interior design via desire to inspire. All I can say is I would have no complaints if my place looked like this.

Check out the rest of the space and more by following the link.

I'm off to class to watch "Bringing Up Baby." Oh yeah, I like me some Cary Grant.

Birds are baller

I like birds. Anything with a bird on it, chances are I'm going to like it. They're just cute and aesthetically pleasing. There are certain things that come to mind when I think of birds - simplicity is one of them, though I know biologically birds are quite complex. Sometimes I just think about how nice it would be to be a bird and sit up in a tree, chirping and flitting about all day. So without further ado, BIRDS.

Via grain edit, here's Josh Brill's awesome bird prints from his Flora Fauna collection. Here area few of my favorites:

They're all around $20 a piece, I think. I could definitely see myself decorating with these!

Next, via design is mine, is the art of Helen Musselwhite. HO-LY COW! What a talented lady. All of her pieces are beautiful.

So gorgeous!
